Our goal is to develop a code of practice for organisations involved in collecting, storing, and sharing farm data. This is part of the wider Dairy Industry Network Data Standards project.
We believe this will help the industry by:
- encouraging new innovation;
- reducing the costs of compliance;
- encouraging “on-demand” sharing of data rather than the development of more centralised databases.
Our work in this area started with industry workshops in Hamilton (4 February 2013) and Wellington (7 February 2013). These were attended by workshop participants from around New Zealand, and a number of other participants have asked to be involved. You can download the workshop report(1.1MB PDF)
Following the workshop we convened a steering group to ensure that we follow a robust and fair process in formulating the draft code of practice, and seek broad industry engagement and review. The steering committee includes representatives from CRV Ambreed, DairyNZ, FarmIQ, Federated Farmers, Fertiliser Association of NZ, Fonterra, LIC, The Maori Trustee, and Rezare Systems.
The next step in the development of the code of practice is formation of a working group of those organisations prepared to put time into developing and reviewing the code.
